The "thermo edge", on which minute discharges are generated, is a feature created at the top of the insulator. It burns off, with minute electrical discharges, the carbon that is deposited on the insulator as the result of a rich fuel-air mixture or a long period of low-speed driving, maintaining a constantly high ignition performance for the plug.
